If you are hunting for “the” CSS Profile deadline for 2027-28, here is the honest answer: there isn’t one. College Board’s About the CSS Profile page says you complete the Profile starting October 1 each year. Each college then sets its own deadline. As of August 25, 2026, College Board had not published a 2027-28-specific press release with a different open date, so this page does not invent one.

The 2026-27 dates (the form that opened October 1, 2025) are still on CSS Profile deadlines for 2026-27 for families finishing that cycle.

October 1, then your schools’ dates

The CSS Profile is College Board’s application for institutional, non-federal aid — a college’s own grants, not Pell, not federal loans. Because each college decides who gets that money, each college decides when it needs your information.

College Board’s Getting Started page is the one that pins the clock: deadlines are school-specific, and you should treat midnight Eastern of the earliest priority filing date on your list as the date that governs you. That is the date to file against, not a later school’s Regular Decision date, and not a roundup you found on a blog.

Confirm two places, not one:

  1. College Board’s participating institutions list.
  2. The college’s own financial aid site.

If a school is on the list but its .edu page says something different, the college’s page is the one that awards the money.

What it costs — and who does not pay

College Board’s fee page is blunt: $25 for the first institution, $16 for each additional one (cost and payment methods).

The fee-waiver page and complete-application page name the free path for domestic undergraduates — and those students’ noncustodial-parent applications — if any one of these is true:

  • family adjusted gross income up to $100,000, or
  • an SAT fee waiver, or
  • the student is an orphan or ward of the court under 24.

Submit only through CSS Profile. A third party that offers to “file it for you” for a fee is not College Board.

The FAFSA remains free and separate. If you need both forms, start with when the 2027-28 FAFSA opens and CSS Profile vs FAFSA.

Noncustodial parent applications

Some schools require a noncustodial parent application. That is a second CSS Profile, in the noncustodial parent’s own College Board account, not a shared login. The waiver-request PDF lives on College Board’s Getting Started page. A waiver is decided by each college and affects only that college’s own institutional aid — never federal aid. The how-to is in how a noncustodial parent files and the NCP waiver decoder.

The bottom line

Start the CSS Profile on October 1. Pay $25 / $16 unless the $100,000 AGI waiver (or SAT waiver, or orphan/ward under 24) applies. File by midnight Eastern of your earliest college’s priority date. Confirm the school on College Board’s list and on the college’s own aid site. If a noncustodial parent is in the picture, read Getting Started before you guess.

The CSS Profile Survival Pack is the done-for-you version of that packet — waiver letter, IDOC tracker, home-equity organizer — if you would rather not draft it from a blank page.
